As a big fan of the Vermintide franchise I thought that I would find and paint some of the awesome Warhammer Skaven models from Games Workshop that appear in the video games!
Storm Vermin in the streets of Ubersreik
First off we have 7 storm vermin (more than enough for our own Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay campaign) and 3 Clanrats. I painted them with a mix of citadel paints and Reaper miniatures paint. Background is Tabletop World buildings (the walls and a little shed from the bridge terrain) along with some Dunkeldorf cobblestone bases and accessories.
Vicious crazed plague monks!
Next off we have the fearsome Plague Vermin which are always quite a challenge in the game! I really love the one with the “fly eyes” as Nurgle has blessed these rats with plenty of buboes and mutations!
At the moment I’m working on a skaven gunner, globadier, warpfire thrower and a great big Stormfiend! But with my speed it will take a while to finish them all :D
Here’s a couple of pictures of the miniatures I painted before and during the kickstarter!
Traud the old Bloodhound tracking foul mutants out of Gruselwald!
The Kingpin (Sven) and his gang aren’t the only ones invading this kickstarter! We also have the Witch Hunters who is looking for certain mutants in the sewers!
Johannes Koch, the Witch Hunter with Traud. I know he will fit perfectly with our WFRP campaign!
Thank you to all the backers who have backed our 3rd kickstarter!
So it’s been a while… Well, actually it has been 2 years since my last post! Lots have happened since then and I’ve ended up neglecting my blog a little. I’m mostly on Instagram now, where there are loads of pictures! Check it out: https://www.instagram.com/cabanaminis/
The focus on this kickstarter is our favourite RPG villain from our own WFRP campaigns, Sven the Brewer!
The campaign focuses on the brewer Sven and his gang of thugs, the group of Mutants hiding in the sewers of Dunkeldorf and the Witch Hunters and their Hired Swords who are en route to Dunkeldorf to rid the town of the mutant scourge.
The dwarf siblings: Marik and Barik ready to kick some hinds!Agnes about to teach Old Tully a lesson not to beg for Sven’s Bitter!
A couple of shots of the thugs from this campaign!
In order to try and be a bit more active, I’ll put up more pictures than words, since I have so much to show you. Imagine how many things I’ve painted the past 2 years!! I don’t think I even managed to show anything from our 2nd Kickstarter, which will need a post of its own! But here is a little tavern mood picture that we use in our own RPG campaigns (Both D&D and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay)
The Prancing Peacock Tavern. Filled with sitting and standing townsfolk NPC’s!Bertha and Bull from our 1st Kickstarter and Sabine (and Franz if you look carefully) from our 2nd Kickstarter!
Okay, that was it for now! Go check out the kickstarter if you want! And if you read this after it is over, Pledge Manager for late pledges is right around the corner :)
We have been playing Dungeons and Dragons (or D&D) for a while now, and I thought that I would show some of the minis that I painted just for this!
One of these projects is the Vistani Wagon/Vardo which is an MDF wooden DIY kit from Sarissa Precision Terrain. Quite easy to assemble although some parts were bent and the customer service was a little wobbly. This was a few years back, though :)
Along with the wagon I painted Ezmerelda D’Avenir and Rudolph van Richten. I haven’t met these guys in the campaign, but I know they are coming at some point. The minis are from an old limited collector’s edition box from Galeforce 9. I used the box art for colour reference, since I don’t have artwork to work from!
The Kickstarter pledge manager with late pledges / pre-orders will be closing soon, so if you want some kickass Dunkeldorf Miniatures before they hit the store, check it out here: https://dunkeldorf.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders/
Finally I can show some more of the of the Dunkeldorf citizens I have painted the last few months for our Kickstarter. We will soon receive the last resin masters from the Kickstarter, which is still open for pre-orders/late pledges by the way! Link here: https://dunkeldorf.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders Great timing actually, because as of this moment, I only have Wilhelm von Struttendorf left on the work table. And within a week or so I will receive another 5 minis, including a certain popular Ogre! Along with loads of accessories! Can’t wait!! :-D
Erika, the Blacksmith, dreaming of her former life as a Zweihander for the Imperial army.
Erika Schmidt, former Zweihander in the Imperial army, now local blacksmith after her leg injury. Although, somewhat disabled, she still dreams of her former glory and perhaps a future as an adventurer? :) I managed to paint some of her tattoos aswell as her grizzled scar!
Littleton Proudcock on his trusy stool!
Littleton Proudcock, the Tavern Keeper comes in 2 pieces, him and his trusty stool! So he can either stand on his stool or on the ground aswell! I painted an elaborate version of his stool with pretty flowers :)
Ludmilla von Struttendorf, owner of the the local coaching service, The Winged Serpent
Ludmilla von Struttendorf in all her green splendor! Her family owns the prestigous “The Winged Serpent Express” and her family sigil is the serpent. So I thought it would be fitting to paint her using green colours. I used reaper paints for the miniature, including Viper green (fitting name) and the Olive skin triad for her dress. The skin is a mix of Tanned skin, Fair skin and Burgundy Wine. She would look very cool in a black dress with writings on the headpiece cloth and with bright red lips and gems too! Maybe next time!
Here are the artwork the characters are made from:
The attic is filled with goods and delicious treats!
The attic was very fun to do, and all the warepiles really add to the atmosphere of the house! My favourite part of painting the warepiles, was painting the fruit and lettuce in particular! It took ages though, but hopefully we will have use of these for other things in our RPG sessions. The warepiles are from Tabletop World, Tabletop-Art, Fenryll and Ristul’s creations – now sold and cast by Annie from Bad Squiddo!
I have so many exciting things to show, and hopefully I will have more time soon to show off more of my recent projects! Including my Dungeons and Dragons miniature (I am making a monster menagerie!!)
I thought it would be fun to create a children’s room in the Merchant House, so I found a bunch of bits I have had lying around since beginning of time (or the hobby, hehe) This is the 3rd floor of the house
I used a few helmets from the old Bretonnia Knights including a dragon’s head and a unicorn, which I HAD to paint as a rainbow unicorn!
The merchant’s daughter walking around in her own room at her father’s shop.
The companies used were Malifaux (old metal orphanage basing kit, which is AWESOME!) Retro Kids room accessories from HQresin, Fenryll, Tabletop-world, Games Workshop, Zealot Miniatures and Thomarillion.
Top view of the spoiled daughter’s room
I painted all the toys a little bit creepy aswell, since I need them for Blinsky’s Toy shop from our Curse of Strahd campaign (Dungeons and dragons) I also painted Blinsky with his pet monkey Piccolo :)
The room next to the daughter’s room is a storage room with another balcony to watch over the city!
Storage room leading up to the attic filled with wares and vegetablesTop view of the two rooms on the 3rd floor
Next up is pictures of the attic and the office on the 2nd floor!
After a long time working on the Dunkeldorf Kickstarter, which was a huge success and far better than we anticipated, I have had some time to work on my big Merchant House which I used to enter Tabletop World’s annual painting competition.
And I’m very proud to announce that once again, my entry into the competition, The Merchant Family, won 1st place again! I was stunned when I received the news and very, very happy, as this project is the biggest I have done so far!
Front of the building, with the merchant watching over his customers from his balcony!Top view of the large building! All the window shutters and doors are fully functional!
This by far the biggest building I have ever worked on! All the exterior and all the interior of the 4 floor buildings! And I was lucky to receive a helping hand from my husband, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to make it in time! Everything, except the Dunkeldorf Miniatures and some of the office furniture was painted specifically for this project! I felt that the warepiles I had in my collection didn’t match the standard I wanted for this house, so I ended up painting a lot of warepiles. I actually ended up painting more than was needed for this project. Let’s just say I won’t be making anymore warepiles for quite a while!!
Top view of the bottom floor, showing a grocery shop filled with goods, food and supplies!Closer view of the shop, showing the detailed interior!Looking inside the shop with delicious fresh vegetables !
I have another bunch of pictures from the Merchant House, I will be showing off in another update, so stay tuned! :-D
The First 5 Painted Miniatures: Erika, Günther, Herman, Bertha and Old Tully
Our Dunkeldorf Kickstarter Campaign is coming along really well. Much better than we anticipated! We are running through the stretch goals and is close to unlocking the 18th stretch goal, Reiner’s Pug, an homage to our own pug Brunnhilde (or Hilde for short). We already had a cat stretch goal, Bull (Bertha’s cat), so we had to have a pug aswell.
Mustafa, the artist on our team, was given some reference pictures of Brunnhilde and drew her to fit into Dunkeldorf as Reiner Krukenberg’s spoiled pet! We wanted her in her favourite “just chillin'” position with a couple of nipples popping out to show that she’s a girl :-P
Hilde posing with her favourite ball and Hilde relaxing on our terrace
I also found some time to do the interior of a building, and a few furniture + accessories for a mood picture of Herman in his manor. We don’t have his feast ready to paint yet, but I found a bunch of other fancy things to decorate his manor (or office) You can see the rooftop of a building in the background through the window (we held the room up and had buildings in the background). I think the effect worked and I’m already working on a whole lot of different “props” for more mood pictures.

As you probably suspect, much of my time has been spent on me and my husband’s Dunkeldorf Miniatures project and less on blogging. But today is the day we launch our Kickstarter! It has already exceeded any expectations we had for today.
We knew there were a lot of interest, but we didn’t think we would be funded this early!
The goal was to be funded on the first day, and after only 31 minutes, we reached that goal!! Fortunately we prepared a lot of stretch goals involving free miniatures and accessories, so I don’t think people will be disappointed!
Littleton Proudcock in his tavern “The Prancing Peacock”
As this is the first day in the 30 day Kickstarter Campaign, much can happen during the campaign, and we continue to be humble, as we don’t want to expect too much. We really hope people will be kind enough to share the news about the Kickstarter to friends and family that are interested in such nerdy things as this! And to be a part of this unique experience!
Bertha the Ratcatcher searching the sewers of Dunkeldorf after her cat Bull
A lot of work has been put into the pre-release of the Kickstarter!
Here is a little bit about the “crew” behind the project!
I (Nana) painted all the miniatures, terrain, accessories and scenery on the pictures! I also assist Nicki whenever I can and I have taken over a lot of the work involving King Games, so Nicki can focus 100% on the Kickstarter these first few days of the Kickstarter!
Nicki (my husband) is the brains of this operation and is in charge of all background stories, graphics, Kickstarter page, social media, communicating back and forth with our artist, sculptor, casters and also manage all the advertising involved. And probably a million other things I forgot to mention! So basically, he has his hands full at the moment!
Mustafa is in charge of all the artwork that is being done for the campaign, which involves a whole lot of drawings, sketches and final artwork. He really outdid himself with all these amazing pieces of art! And we’re so grateful that he has been able to put all of our ideas and visions into art!
Sonny is in charge of every piece of sculpted miniature and accessories in the campaign. And like Mustafa, he really outdid himself too! He pushed the boundaries of his abilities and conjured up some beautiful miniatures! Perfect combination of the visions we had and the artwork provided! We are really lucky to have found such talent!
We had a lot of fun taking photo shoots of the miniatures in different situations and we will be doing more of that during the campaign and when we launch the miniatures on King Games (sometime in July or August, unless, God forbid, we get delays)
Erika Schmidt the Blacksmith daydreaming about her days as a Zweihander in the Imperial army (before her leg injury)
As I am writing this (3 hours in) we are 250% funded, so we are over the moon (yes, I just did that) with joy! The “Early Bird” pledge was gone in no time, so we might have put the backer limit a bit low. But we might make it up to people who missed it, somehow :)
Old Tully, the beggar and once famous entertainer, begging in the streets of Dunkeldorf
I will be updating my blog during the campaign, to show the progress and maybe some sneak peeks of the greens :)
Until then! Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far! This is a dream come true for us!
