Vermintide Stormvermin and Plague Monks

As a big fan of the Vermintide franchise I thought that I would find and paint some of the awesome Warhammer Skaven models from Games Workshop that appear in the video games!

First off we have 7 storm vermin (more than enough for our own Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay campaign) and 3 Clanrats. I painted them with a mix of citadel paints and Reaper miniatures paint. Background is Tabletop World buildings (the walls and a little shed from the bridge terrain) along with some Dunkeldorf cobblestone bases and accessories.

Next off we have the fearsome Plague Vermin which are always quite a challenge in the game! I really love the one with the “fly eyes” as Nurgle has blessed these rats with plenty of buboes and mutations!

At the moment I’m working on a skaven gunner, globadier, warpfire thrower and a great big Stormfiend! But with my speed it will take a while to finish them all :D

Our 3rd Dunkeldorf Kickstarter

So it’s been a while… Well, actually it has been 2 years since my last post!
Lots have happened since then and I’ve ended up neglecting my blog a little. I’m mostly on Instagram now, where there are loads of pictures!

The focus on this kickstarter is our favourite RPG villain from our own WFRP campaigns, Sven the Brewer!

The campaign focuses on the brewer Sven and his gang of thugs, the group of Mutants hiding in the sewers of Dunkeldorf and the Witch Hunters and their Hired Swords who are en route to Dunkeldorf to rid the town of the mutant scourge.

Forest Goblin Village – Part Three: The Guarded Hut

Time for another addition to the Forest Goblin Village project! First part was the Egg-snatcher, the second was The Spider Heist and now we have the well guarded goblin hut!

The hut is from an old Warhammer starter set (featuring dwarves vs goblins) and is heavily converted to suit the need of the forest goblins! Well, some of the parts of the projects are from Night Goblins aswell, but we made a mish mash to better fit our style! Barrels from Ristul’s and forest basing kit is from Scibor. Rest of the parts are pretty much just from the Arachnarok Spider from Games Workshop, while flowers and the poison ivy are from the amazing Mini-Natur and heavily wrapped around the entire hut and ground.

I really loved painting this piece! Those archers mean business if you come too close! Still have a few more pieces to come!

Troll Teaser! River trolls Part 1

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition is finally out! Atleast the PDF version. We are still waiting on the physical collector’s edition and the standard rulebook (yes we bought both, so we both had a hard copy)

We have spent the last few evenings making characters and trying the new system, which should be simular to 2nd edition, but as we never played that edition, we had to learn it from scratch!

We are now converting our heroes from our homebrew into 4th edition, which is a little harder than we thought.

Ozzy our Rogue from a scrappy background becomes a thief, our hunter Max who has a background as the son of a Lord is now a bounty hunter, while Dagna our dwarven shieldmaiden goes through some sh*@ and ends up as a Troll Slayer! Yes, they can be female in our campaign! ‘Cause, why not?

One of the requirements for her to advance her career is killing a troll. Which is perfect, since we already have Wanted poster handouts for trolls in the vicinity of Krugenheim (city in eastern Talabecland).

So now I’m working on the trolls for the encounter. Often it’s one or two trolls for such a contract, but we thought it would be really cool to have a leader for them! So today I will be working on the Troggoth Hag from Forgeworld and hopefully get her and some of her sons ready by next month.

I’ve already painted one of her sons a little while ago, so here he is in all his glory!

River Troll

My husband made and painted the 75mm (3″) base while I painted the flowers and ivy on it. The blue skinny flowers are from our garden which I dried and painted in vivid colours.

The troll itself is painted with Reaper paints. Mostly the Olive Green triad from Reaper consisting of Muddy Olive, Olive Green and Pale Green which I shaded and glazed with dark purples. I think it gives him a more evil look! I used Burgundy Wine to make a glaze (heavily thinned paint) and made a wash using Reaper’s Wash Medium. Claws and Spikes were painted with Brown Sand, Driftwood Brown and Stained Ivory. The dark green scales are painted with Scale75’s Black Forest Green highlighted with Black Forest Green mixed with Fall Green and finally a slight highlight of Olive Green to connect the scales with the skin.

Finally a couple of more pictures of the handsome troll! I really like these plastic River Trolls (or troggoths!) from Games Workshop. I had them before, but decided to sell them and make new ones. I’m also working on another troll brother which is my favourite of the ways to assemble the trolls: The guy with the fish!

August Commission Done!

Despite the scorching heat this summer (We had 34 degrees last week, along with most of Europe) I managed to finally finish a commission for a Spanish friend! There is always a fun challenge ahead when doing commissions and this was no exception! Lots of customized minis!

Here is the whole crew ready to take on brave adventurers! Again, really fun to paint, albeit quite difficult when painting in a studio without air condition, making the paints dry up before they hit the mini!

 

Forest Goblin Village – Part Two: The Spider Heist

Time for the second part of my Forest Goblin Village! In the first post I showed off a diorama with a brave goblin stealing cobwebs from a bunch of nasty red spiders.

Now the goblins need the spiderlings aswell! This time for breeding vicious pets to attack trespassers. An even more dangerous “job” and a brave warrior is doing his best to tackle the spider.

As you can see, there are already several unfortunate goblin victims. I guess the spiders don’t like giving away their babies!

Lots of cool terrain pieces were used for this diorama! The spider cobwebs and spiderlings are from Ristul’s, the totem (with the evil eyes!) is from Scibor, the crooked tree is part of a larger tree from Tabletop-World and the goblin carrying the spider aswell as the unfortunate goblins strapped unto the log are from Games Workshop’s Arachnarok Spider set.

Next up is a hut! And I’m going to list the paints I used for the spiders, the webs and the goblins!

Forest Goblin Village – Part One: The Egg Snatcher

So I finally got around to take some pictures of our exciting Forest Goblin Village!

A very time consuming but overwhelmingly fun adventure! I painted all the pieces, which my husband built out of a ton of boardgame boards (as bases) and bits from our many collections. We bought an extra arachnarok spider and a citadel forest just for bits!

First off! The infamous egg-snatcher goblin. This little guy had the nasty job to steal fresh eggs from the many spiders sorrounding the village.
They use the webs for building huts, the eggs for food and for breeding spiders, which they use in combat, and they use the venom to coat their weapons.
He is one of the many goblins who risk their lives every day interacting with venomous spiders. Casualties are plenty, but so are fresh recruits! There is always another goblin ready to prove his worth!

Egg Snatcher

I painted the goblin with tattoos and feathers in shiny colours. A sharp contrast to the red and orange colours of the spiders. Lots of tufts from MiniNatur and Gamers Grass were used along with Spider scenery from Ristul’s Market, which sadly closed down. Goblin and loose spiders are from the Arachnarok Spider kit from Games Workshop.

Dragon Ogre Shaggoth!

I have always thought the Dragon Ogre Shaggoths from the Warhammer universe were awesome creatures. The fact that they grow stronger with every thunderstorm and they can grow as large as mountains is really fascinating! Krakanrok the Black is the father of all shaggoths and is literally the size of a mountain. How cool is that? The good old regular shoggoth is not quite as large, but still an ultimate enemy of any dwarf slayer!

Dragon Ogre Shaggoth

I absolutely love this mini! My husband gave it to me for Christmas 2 years ago (metal version) and mounted it on a 60mm round base filled with slate rocks to give it an awesome look! It weighs a ton though, and my wrists were thoroughly worn out by painting this giant.
I actually prefer the original colours of the Shaggoth, so I used the same colour scheme throughout the mini. Why does he have two bellybuttons, though? It can only be seen from a certain angle, so it’s not a distraction! And it means he was born and not hatched! Well, the nipples gave it away too of course.

One thing I never noticed before painting it, is the tiny creatures braiding his hair (yes they are literally braiding his hair) Most people paint them brown, but I thought it would be really cool if they were the sons and daughters of the Shaggoth, clinging on to him until they are strong enough to make it on their own!

I struggled a bit with the axe. I actually finished painting it in a very worn palette , but then started over again, since I thought he needed something more suitable for someone who enjoys being electricuted. So I painted it lightning blue/teal with purple tones and shadows. Not 100% satisfied but close! Let’s say 89%!
Looking forward to someday painting the plastic normal dragon ogres too :)

Dragon Ogre Shaggoth

Even More Townsfolk!

A few days ago I made a post about some townsfolk for our RPG – a blacksmith and a halfling nobleman. This time I painted a couple of real oldschool Bretonnian Archers and a small child from Freebooter.

The archers were really fun to paint. We found a bunch of these stored in my husband’s parents’ attic and I decided to paint 2 of them as archers for our town scenery. I already have one  practice target from Zealot Miniatures and I have several extra targets from Mantic Kickstarter due in May.
I painted them in 2 themes. One standard Archer with the Colours of Talabecland and some freehand “embroidery” and a little moustache :) the other is in Hochland Attire with a little Bretonnian Lily icon (Fleur de Lis).

The kid is from a Freebooter Miniatures: Lobo the Old Warhorse set. I added a large feather to his (or her) hat, though it is a little hard to see on the picture. The base is the original metal base customized to fit a 20mm base. I painted the child androgynous, so we can use it as either a girl or a boy squire, helping the pc’s carry their luggage and other necessities.
