More Pictures of the Merchant House

I thought it would be fun to create a children’s room in the Merchant House, so I found a bunch of bits I have had lying around since beginning of time (or the hobby, hehe) This is the 3rd floor of the house

I used a few helmets from the old Bretonnia Knights including a dragon’s head and a unicorn, which I HAD to paint as a rainbow unicorn!

The merchant’s daughter walking around in her own room at her father’s shop.

The companies used were Malifaux (old metal orphanage basing kit, which is AWESOME!) Retro Kids room accessories from HQresin, Fenryll, Tabletop-world, Games Workshop, Zealot Miniatures and Thomarillion.

I painted all the toys a little bit creepy aswell, since I need them for Blinsky’s Toy shop from our Curse of Strahd campaign (Dungeons and dragons) I also painted Blinsky with his pet monkey Piccolo :)

The room next to the daughter’s room is a storage room with another balcony to watch over the city!

Next up is pictures of the attic and the office on the 2nd floor!

Tabletop World: Merchant’s House

Update: Pledge Manager is LIVE and if you missed the Dunkeldorf Kickstarter, Late Pledges/Pre-orders are up now until mid June!

LINK: https://dunkeldorf.backerkit.com

After a long time working on the Dunkeldorf Kickstarter, which was a huge success and far better than we anticipated, I have had some time to work on my big Merchant House which I used to enter Tabletop World’s annual painting competition.

I entered last year with the “Alluring Sisters (Witchcraft Coven)” which, to my big surprise, won first place in the single building category!

And I’m very proud to announce that once again, my entry into the competition, The Merchant Family, won 1st place again!
I was stunned when I received the news and very, very happy, as this project is the biggest I have done so far!

Front of the building, with the merchant watching over his customers from his balcony!
Top view of the large building! All the window shutters and doors are fully functional!

This by far the biggest building I have ever worked on!
All the exterior and all the interior of the 4 floor buildings!
And I was lucky to receive a helping hand from my husband, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to make it in time!
Everything, except the Dunkeldorf Miniatures and some of the office furniture was painted specifically for this project!
I felt that the warepiles I had in my collection didn’t match the standard I wanted for this house, so I ended up painting a lot of warepiles. I actually ended up painting more than was needed for this project. Let’s just say I won’t be making anymore warepiles for quite a while!!

I have another bunch of pictures from the Merchant House, I will be showing off in another update, so stay tuned! :-D

Butcher with questionable ingredients!

I’ve painted the Fenryll Butcher and Stall before, but I thought it was time for a new version! My husband modified the stalls and added a little roof (and added all kinds of meat on a string)
Previously the butcher was a separate miniature, but this time I attached the miniature to the stalls, since I don’t use the miniature outside the stall anyways.

ButcherThe miniature was very fun to paint and ended up pretty macabre! I painted him in subtle colours, so the only real colour is the meat! (and blood) The idea of him having all kinds of meat which he finds in the gutters or roadkill is a very fun addition!

Here’s the model from different angles!

I thought it could be a good idea to show off the miniature before I painted it (but after it was primed), so here it is!

Forest Goblin Village – Part Three: The Guarded Hut

Time for another addition to the Forest Goblin Village project! First part was the Egg-snatcher, the second was The Spider Heist and now we have the well guarded goblin hut!

The hut is from an old Warhammer starter set (featuring dwarves vs goblins) and is heavily converted to suit the need of the forest goblins! Well, some of the parts of the projects are from Night Goblins aswell, but we made a mish mash to better fit our style! Barrels from Ristul’s and forest basing kit is from Scibor. Rest of the parts are pretty much just from the Arachnarok Spider from Games Workshop, while flowers and the poison ivy are from the amazing Mini-Natur and heavily wrapped around the entire hut and ground.

I really loved painting this piece! Those archers mean business if you come too close! Still have a few more pieces to come!

Well Well Well.. A Well!

Well, I’ve had this well lying around for a couple of years before i finally decided to paint it! I found this and the stables from Forge World in a cheap bundle on eBay, but only just finished this one!

Forge World Well

The trees are from a company called Busch. I think it’s smaller scale, but they are rather cheap and they look pretty good even at close-ups. The old Forgeworld resin is very high quality and very dense, and I used so much time filing/sanding the bottom on this and the stables, since they put way too much resin in the mold it seems. Had the same problem with the Carmine Dragon and the Roadside Shrine (all originals of course) but with a lot of excess resin at the bottom.

Forge World Well

I added a rope from a reaper miniatures adventurer’s kit (the bucket is part of the scenery and attached to the base) and I put 2 ravens which I painted up as starlings. The one on the ground is from Tabletop-Art’s Raven set and the one on the well edge is from Tabletop-World’s Tombstone set.

I used water effects in the watering trough from AK’s Resin Water kit, so it’s ready for any thirsty horse or desperate adventurer (who is too lazy to use the well)

This turned out to be quite a centerpiece for our rural Warhammer RPG sessions! We used it as a midpoint for a beastmen encounter a few sessions back and it was used (with great success) by our rogue Ozzy and his faithful companion Littleton Proudcock (aka P-cock) as a great place to sneak-attack!

Forest Goblin Village – Part Two: The Spider Heist

Time for the second part of my Forest Goblin Village! In the first post I showed off a diorama with a brave goblin stealing cobwebs from a bunch of nasty red spiders.

Now the goblins need the spiderlings aswell! This time for breeding vicious pets to attack trespassers. An even more dangerous “job” and a brave warrior is doing his best to tackle the spider.

Goblin Camp - Spider Attack

As you can see, there are already several unfortunate goblin victims. I guess the spiders don’t like giving away their babies!

Lots of cool terrain pieces were used for this diorama! The spider cobwebs and spiderlings are from Ristul’s, the totem (with the evil eyes!) is from Scibor, the crooked tree is part of a larger tree from Tabletop-World and the goblin carrying the spider aswell as the unfortunate goblins strapped unto the log are from Games Workshop’s Arachnarok Spider set.

Next up is a hut! And I’m going to list the paints I used for the spiders, the webs and the goblins!

New Edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (WFRP) 4th Edition and tribute!

Now that the 4th edition is on the doorstep (not literally, but close), and we had an amazing preview PDF of the whole thing, I thought it would be suitable with a little tribute miniature that my husband pieced together and sculpted, and which I painted.

The thing is based on artwork from the 4th edition rulebook. The artwork really captures the essence and gloomy atmosphere of the rpg, so we did our best to reflect that unto the mini.

Here is the artwork the scarecrow was based on:

WFRP Scarecrow

We tried to make it reflect the artwork as much as possible with what materials we had, and I think Nicki did a great job sculpting his first pumpkin!

I painted some black spots around the “head” to resemble the flies buzzing around the rotting pumpkin head and tried to make the body look as tattered as possible!

Here is a work in progress photo of the piece:

Scarecrow_00

Some dryad arms were used aswell as a scarecrow body from Ristul’s, some goblin pikes, a wood elf sword, and a fenryll sign if i remember correctly!

All in all a very fun project and we really enjoyed the process!

Forest Goblin Village – Part One: The Egg Snatcher

So I finally got around to take some pictures of our exciting Forest Goblin Village!

A very time consuming but overwhelmingly fun adventure! I painted all the pieces, which my husband built out of a ton of boardgame boards (as bases) and bits from our many collections. We bought an extra arachnarok spider and a citadel forest just for bits!

First off! The infamous egg-snatcher goblin. This little guy had the nasty job to steal fresh eggs from the many spiders sorrounding the village.
They use the webs for building huts, the eggs for food and for breeding spiders, which they use in combat, and they use the venom to coat their weapons.
He is one of the many goblins who risk their lives every day interacting with venomous spiders. Casualties are plenty, but so are fresh recruits! There is always another goblin ready to prove his worth!

Egg Snatcher

I painted the goblin with tattoos and feathers in shiny colours. A sharp contrast to the red and orange colours of the spiders. Lots of tufts from MiniNatur and Gamers Grass were used along with Spider scenery from Ristul’s Market, which sadly closed down. Goblin and loose spiders are from the Arachnarok Spider kit from Games Workshop.

Here are some additional pictures of the diorama piece:

Stay tuned for more pieces!

Overgrown Statue – Lord of the Rings Style

Back in business :-D

I recently painted and my husband decorated this really cool statue from Thomarillion. The base is a bunch of slate stones stacked upon each other, and a lot of tufts and flowers, which are mostly from MiniNatur and some of them are from Gamers Grass.

A simple, but very real-looking scenery piece. It fits into our forest scenery, but also in a garden!

Next up, some of our many Forest Goblin scenery pieces!

The Alluring Sisters (Witchcraft Coven)

Update: I won 1st place! Still haven’t fully processed it, and I’m in complete awe! But can’t wait to spend the €300!
Big thanks to Tabletop-World!

Okay, so recently we decided we would join the annual Tabletop World competition with a building in their single building category (there is also diorama) and we decided their Townhouse II as our entry.

Since their houses are barely 28mm scale, we chose some miniatures from Dark Sword’s George R.R. Martin Masterworks (Game of thrones) miniature line. Tom Meier doesn’t sculpt in heroic scale like Reaper, Games Workshop and Dark Sword’s other lines (heroic scale is larger heads/larger hands etc) and his miniatures tend to be a tad bit smaller than the other sculpters, so they fit perfectly into the building. For the interior we chose Irri – Handmaid and Female Courtesan, and for the bottom of the building sitting on boxes we chose Female Mage on Stairs sculpted by Patrick Keith, and she is quite bigger than the other 2 ladies, but we figured it wouldn’t matter :)

It’s the first time I ever take part in a painting competition, and I have no hopes what so ever of winning, but as I wrote in a previous post, you get 20% discount code just for participating :D which I will need for my river terrain board.

TheAlluringSisters01

It actually started out as just being 3 beautiful women in a house, but when my husband decided it needed a bench with a book on the balcony, the only book that looked good was a book with a chaos star symbol on it. And so the story of the Alluring Sisters were born! They are actually witches luring men into their cozy townhouse which always smells like fresh baked pies (wonder what is inside the pies!!)

It wasn’t initially part of the plan to paint the interior, but we decided it would be cool to show the theme of the project. So first off is the middle floor with a nice desk and furniture from Tabletop World, a large candleholder from Tabletop-Art, a Grandfather Clock from Zealot Miniatures and a cat from the set Edna, the Crazy Cat Lady from Reaper Miniatures.

Last but not least, the attic! We all have a creepy attic ;) and these ladies sure know how to decorate the top room of the house!

My husband really outdid himself with the altar! He used a ton of skulls for the base and half a table from Grendel for the altar. Book, candlesticks and most of the skulls are from Tabletop-art.
The wooden spikes are from Grendel aswell and the chain/heads are from our bits boxes.
I had a blast painting the altar, the summoning circle and the small table. The walls are painted with a mouldy effect, which gives the room a very eerie look!

We really wanted to paint the bottom room of the building too with a cauldron full of meaty bits and fresh baked pies, but we ran out of time and finished the day before the competition, so maybe some other time, who knows :-)
