Commission Completed!

Finished and sent this amazing group of miniatures last week to a loyal customer from Spain! This has been the most demanding commission so far and it took me quite a while to finish, but I am proud of the results! :-)

Here is an overall picture of the commission!

I don’t dare to think about how long the work took, but each miniature took me around 2,5-5 hours, so a looong time :-P

Here are some of the heavy-weights (both in size and time spent on painting them)

Ogres

The Ogre Butchers took a long time to paint and the one on the right was made of metal, which proved to be very hard on my wrist. The first one however, was resin/finecast and a lot more easy to handle. The right hands of the miniatures had magnets inserted, so different weapons could be attached, which is pretty clever. I painted 2 additional halberd/swords for those.

They ended up looking really cool, and I kept the colours in the same theme. Even though they are mummies I painted them pale so they could serve next to skeletons without standing out.

These very detailed Khorne Blood Warriors were part of the challenge. They serve as evil warriors in a more subtle colour theme, though still loaded with details.

Last but not least I received this Age of Sigmar Liberator (I believe it is) which has a marauder head replacement and meant to look like a barbarian. Due to the futuristic look the Sig”marines” have, I had to work my way around it and make him more medieval :-)

I experimented a bit with Scale75 metal paints (Added Reaper black paint to S75 Heavy Metal) since I only had light metal colours at my disposal, but I think he ended up pretty nice :-)

Also painted a few Snake critters for this pack just like I did with the Lizards on the last Commission.

 

Mordheim: Hired Sword and Ostlander

I am currently working on a few miniatures for our Mordheim Campaign. I have assembled 2 Ogre Bodyguards, a Pit Fighter and a Troll Slayer for me and my friends to use during games. All of them in plastic as lending out precious metal miniatures is a bit painful when having an apartment full of people, where minatures on the floor is a common sight. This is the guy from the Plague Cart which I chose not to use for my “The Dead” scenery theme.

Used a black and blue “spectral” colour theme mixed with very pale skin, as I used the miniature for experimenting with colours :-)

This is the Ostlander # 2 Miniature I finished quite a while ago, but thought he deserved to be included in the post :-)

The beard ended up really nice I think :-) still missing a few of the miniatures from the set, though.

Mordheim: Carnival of Chaos Brutes

Been quite a while since my last Mordheim miniature post, and I thought it was about time to add these to the pile!

Nurgle is my all-time favourite Chaos faction and I’ve already painted a huge army for Warhammer Fantasy Battle. It has taken me a while to come up with a colour theme for the Carnival of Chaos Warband. Most of my Nurgle followers are painted in a green colour theme (obviously!) but the Idea that these guys act as strong-men for a circus meant that they should be painted in a more “jolly” theme! I find the purple/dark green theme really creepy and it ended up pretty nice on these two! I also have a small circus tent in these colours to match!

As my Possessed Warband have progressed quite nicely over the last 6 months I thought I would make another warband to fight newcomers in our games :) As I read up on the Carnival of Chaos Warband however, they seemed to be a bit overpowered and the Nurgle’s Rot rule seem way too evil/mean to take out on new players in our group!

My group gave me permission to start a Pirate Warband (mercenaries with pirates), since it is not among the official warbands, but from what I have been reading they are no better than the rest of the Mercenary warbands. The miniatures alone will make the table a lot more fun and colourful! Can’t wait to fight my Husband’s Orc Warband with these :-P

Valeros From Pathfinder RPG

As I have been playing the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game quite a lot over the summer, I thought it was time to present the next hero in line: Valeros!

I spent a great deal of time on painting the details of his face than the rest of the miniature, so the armor didn’t end up as great as the rest. The official artwork picture depicted the armor very brownish, and I thought I’d paint it a bit toned down and not use any metallic paint on the armor. He looks really nice “in person” :-)

I have been reading some of the comics aswell and they are great! I thought the official artwork didn’t exactly depict him the same way that the comics and artworks from the rulebook (I’ve played the RPG aswell) So I’m going to show both :-)

I still have a lot of painted Pathfinder miniatures waiting in line, just need time to snap pictures and make posts! Luxury problem for sure :-)

There are 2 versions available from Reaper miniatures, this version and another more dynamic Valeros based on the Rulebook cover.

Commissioned Arcane Ranger!

I painted this very cool Elven Ranger for a customer in Italy a few months ago, and I thought it deserved a post on my blog!

The customer was very specific and brought artwork for me to work with which turned out helpful! The elf is a sort of spellcasting ranger meant for rpg games (a character he plays) So I added magical looking arrows and as requested: a platinum hair-do with blue/violet highlights.

The dark colours on his bow and clothing are a bit hard to see on the pictures, but he looked really cool in front of me, and despite the fragile nature of Dark Sword Miniatures it survived the trip to Italy.

I actually planned on buying this miniature for myself, just for the joy of painting it. So luckily I had the chance to mix it with commission. The mini is the very cool Male Elven Ranger with Bow from Dark Sword Miniatures – also known for the not-so-inventive names they give miniatures xD Think I have 3 different miniatures named Female Assassin!

Skaven Villains!

We already have a variety of Skaven henchmen, but you can never get enough villains!

Here are my versions of Deathmaster Snikch and the Skaven Warlord!

The Deathmaster miniature is one of my favourite Skaven minis. Unfortunately I am still struggling with metal colours. I am starting to get a hang of it, but until then, I’ll settle with the rusty daggers he is wielding :-) rest of the miniature looks awesome “in person”!

I still can’t fathom that these minis are supposed to stand on 20mm square bases. I have attached both to 32mm round bases, so you can see how hard it must have been when using them for WHFB!

Landship Project is Slowly Progressing!

One of my favourite projects (and most time consuming so far) the Marienburg Class Land Battle Ship is slowly coming on, and I recently bought a plinth for it. I actually plan to use it in my WFRP sessions (epic ones indeed!), so I won’t be permanently mounting it. The plinth is LARGE, and I first thought about making a scenery base on top of the plinth, but something tells me it will take a while. Already put more than 50 hours into the ship alone which is far from finished!

And here it is with what little of the ship I have completed! The missing parts are almost fully painted but I am missing the shield crests as I haven’t finished the colours yet. Oh, and obviously the mast and 7 crew members whose uniform colours I am breaking my brain over! The ship looks a little small for the plinth, but the sides and front (including figurehead) is yet to be attached :)

The wheels were excruciating to paint and I really wish I had an airbrush for it! I really wanted the ship a bit toned down, so no shiny metal parts on the wheels. I used black and blue/grey highlights instead. Let’s see how that works out :-)

Stay tuned for more updates! I hope to finish the ship in 2016, but you never know! Atleast I have finished the Tabletop World Gate :-D

The Chimera has landed!

As mentioned in an earlier post, I have coveted this treasure of a monster for quite a few years. Since it is pretty expensive I have continuously post-poned purchasing it. But I sold a lot of pre-painted miniatures recently and thought I deserved it! ‘Cause you know… Chimera!

Quite a big awesome box! I have seen some of Mierce’s smaller miniatures unpacked and they looked really brittle and painful to assemble, so I thought that this big fella would be easy enough….. Oh well…
Every single claw on the miniature needed to be individually glued on. Don’t get me wrong, it looks wonders, but damn… I had to file and drill into each claw “socket” to make them fit!
On the bright side, the rest of the miniature was really easy to assemble!

Pedicure??

I officially gave my first pedicure to a miniature! (even using Citadel thin superglue which has a brush attached, making it look exactly like a nail polish!) The claws were flying everywhere when using tweezers, however and I managed to glue them to my legs and arms twice! Don’t ask why :-P

As you can see in the pictures, there weren’t even space enough for assembling this guy, so I ‘carefully’ shoved all the miniatures away that I am currently working on :-P

And of course, the day after I assembled it, somehow a claw was missing… But it doesn’t seem too hard to sculpt something similar, though I would prefer not to!

I just purchased a base for the miniature. a 120mm round base will do, but I have to paint the stomach first before gluing on the wings, else there will be no space!

Posters for Notice Boards!

I’ve received several mails and comments about the posters I used for the Message/ Notice Board, and I have made a PDF file with all the posters in various shapes and colour shades. Sometimes it just fits better with a pale neutral poster when I put them on buildings and such :)

Here is one we used as hand-outs for our RPG sessions. My husband is the GM and made the poster from an old softcover book.
We originally intended to use it for the old collector miniature Ulli & Marquand’s Wanted Poster Sign, but we ended up with another idea. Reminds me that I need to get that up on the blog some time :-P

I used a small decal scissors for the cut-outs and something called Alles-kleber (which I assume is normal hobby glue) and very carefully glued the posters on the wooden frame :-)

Another Commission Job!

I finished this commission just before I went on vacation (still am while sitting by my laptop!) And I thought I’d share it!

I really loved painting those critters so I went straight to Ebay and bought a pack of them for myself :-D It was really fun painting in bright colours for a change and they ended up great (I hope my customer thinks so too :’-)

I already have the Banshee miniature myself, but I wanted to paint her more creepy this time for commission and she ended up exactly that: Creepy!

The old Sauron miniature is meant to be more of an undead lord sort of guy instead of the classic Sauron. So I had to work around that and come up with a different colour theme (dark red and rusty) and I ended up with a kind of Lich King pair of eyes. He looks very impressive in person and he is a pretty big guy!

I also painted a very cool Dark Elf Assassin miniature to look like a human thief with freehand work and details, but the pictures ended up blurry so he is only featured on the overall picture..

Ooh and the small Chimera ended up a lot better than I anticipated, which reminds me that I just finished assembling the Banebeasts Chimera which I have coveted for years now, and thanks to commission I could now afford it! <3
