Townhouse from Tabletop World

For some reason I never got around to make a post about the Townhouse from Tabletop World, even though the house has been up on Coolminiornot.com for quite a while. So here is a late post about the awesome small but detailed building :-)

Townhouse

The pigs in the picture are from Lead Adventure and are very cute! One is a female and the other a male (they have detailed lady and gentleman parts!) The house is one of the easy assemble ones. It comes in only two parts with detailed interior. As usual I chose to glue the thing together, since it’s rather hard to furnish properly (proportionally it’s the size of a small shed or outhouse) :-P

It only took me a day to paint this as there were few demanding details (I had already painted Mr and Mrs Pig) so I’m quite proud of the result! This was painted shortly after the Coaching Inn, so I repeated the red roof on this one. I have tried to mix the roof colours so it doesn’t look too messy on the game board, but it isn’t as easy as it looks. Still have too many blue roofs! (Town Gate and Guard Tower each have a blue roof)

Stay tuned for more Tabletop World buildings!

Food Supplies Terrain from Ristul’s Market

I’m a huge fan of Ristul’s Extraordinary Market and their unique and quirky minis (as I have mentioned before!) and I recently decided to paint their Food Supplies Terrain. The set looks really great and in my opinion, outshines the Tabletop World Grocery set, which looks great on the table and when setting up a quick market place, but the scale is more of 32-35mm than 25-28mm that I use with my miniatures. There is also lot of customization in Ristul’s since you can combine it with the Food Supplies Basing Kit, and make your own unique Market Stands :-)

Ristuls Groceries

It takes quite a lot of time to paint, but the result is beautiful! And I’m really honored that Radek from Ristul’s chose to use it as main product picture! And coincidentally their top seller :-D

I’m halfway through their Road Signs that are going to fit right into my Mordheim table!

Tabletop World’s Townhouse III – Spooky House Edition!

As mentioned in a previous post I wanted to make my own version of a spooky house. I was inspired by an old Ravensburger boardgame (one I had as a kid) and since I have 2 of Townhouse 3 lying around I figured it was worth an experiment :-D

Tabeletop World - Spooky House

The trees are 4 Ground’s Mature Fir Trees which has been put to good use for our sessions. The dead tree is from Tabletop World. The cute log pile is from Ristul’s.

I painted it mostly in dark brown colours starting with Muddy Soil from Reaper paints and highlighting my way up to Dark Shadow and Brown Sand. The reds are Clotted Red and highlighted with Mahogany Brown also from Reaper. My husband added some moss tufts in recesses of the roof.

Here are a few more pictures. I included the Mordheim Witch to the pictures as she fits right in! Which/Witch :) reminds me that I need to put her up on the blog with her own post!

Mordheim Terrain: Ruined Streets

We are still in the process of expanding our Mordheim terrain, and at some point it would be nice to only make use of ruins and not normal houses. We have finished quite a few ruins lately but to make it even more gloomy we also made some street terrain!

Ruined Streets

The pieces are made of a plastic card bottoms based with various old weapons, debris, Games Workshop Terrain pieces, skulls and small bricks. We even stuffed the cavalry base from Ludwig Schwartzhelm into the road sign piece. (Which is decorated with names of Middenheim street names)

Here are some more pictures:

They look great on the gaming board along with all the other ruins and warepiles!

Advertising Pillar!

As I mentioned in my Notice Board post, I also made an advertising pillar using a lot of posters either found online or self-made. The Advertising pillar is from Thomarillion and it has a really good size with loads of space for posters.

donald duck billposterI used Vallejo Satin Varnish on both sides of the paper posters like old time posters! Though a lot more succesful than Donald Duck’s attempt with soup can advertisements!
I simply added layer after layer of small posters, and I’m pretty sure there are shortcuts to this such as full printed sides, but this just gives it such an authentic look!
I actually made two of these as one of them was for my pre-painted section a while ago. It sold the same day :-)

It looks great on our Mordheim table as a terrain piece!

Here is the Pillar shown from one its sides :-)

Advertising Pillar

Most of the posters on this side of the pillar is made up of posters from the internet and our cool Ulli & Marquand Wanted posters. The wanted poster is Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings!

I made a link in another post with some of the cool posters I used for my Notice Board Poster. Check it out :-)

The Old Timbered House from Tabletop World

I recently posted pictures of the old Merchant’s House and I remembered I was still missing this old timbered house from Tabletop World.

The house is long out of production as it was one of those assembly kits with tons of small bits you had to glue on yourself, including the infamous roof sections, which was madness to both assemble and making the roof suitable for easy access to the full furnished interior.

I am really proud of the result despite painting it years ago. Just like the Merchant’s House, I have never used the interior for gaming sessions.

Timbered House 1

Added some trees and some of my warepiles for the picture aswell as the cute pile of logs from Ristul’s Extraordinary Market’s Bonfire Set. I can highly recommend everything from their miniature range!

More pictures of the exterior including a noble citizen!

It was a bit hard capturing the mood inside the building as it is really hard to get a decent camera position, but here is a good view into the cottage!

Timbered House Interior

Phew, still missing quite a few buildings from my Tabletop World collection. Let’s see if I can take some pictures of my newly finished Town Gate sometime soon :-)

Landship Project is Slowly Progressing!

One of my favourite projects (and most time consuming so far) the Marienburg Class Land Battle Ship is slowly coming on, and I recently bought a plinth for it. I actually plan to use it in my WFRP sessions (epic ones indeed!), so I won’t be permanently mounting it. The plinth is LARGE, and I first thought about making a scenery base on top of the plinth, but something tells me it will take a while. Already put more than 50 hours into the ship alone which is far from finished!

Here is the plinth in its “nude” form :-P

Ship Plinth

And here it is with what little of the ship I have completed! The missing parts are almost fully painted but I am missing the shield crests as I haven’t finished the colours yet. Oh, and obviously the mast and 7 crew members whose uniform colours I am breaking my brain over! The ship looks a little small for the plinth, but the sides and front (including figurehead) is yet to be attached :)

Ship WiP

The wheels were excruciating to paint and I really wish I had an airbrush for it! I really wanted the ship a bit toned down, so no shiny metal parts on the wheels. I used black and blue/grey highlights instead. Let’s see how that works out :-)

Stay tuned for more updates! I hope to finish the ship in 2016, but you never know! Atleast I have finished the Tabletop World Gate :-D

Posters for Notice Boards!

I’ve received several mails and comments about the posters I used for the Message/ Notice Board, and I have made a PDF file with all the posters in various shapes and colour shades. Sometimes it just fits better with a pale neutral poster when I put them on buildings and such :)

Download Here – It’s a really BIG file in high resolution. (15 mb) so have patience!

Here is one we used as hand-outs for our RPG sessions. My husband is the GM and made the poster from an old softcover book.
We originally intended to use it for the old collector miniature Ulli & Marquand’s Wanted Poster Sign, but we ended up with another idea. Reminds me that I need to get that up on the blog some time :-P

Here is the Message Board in its full glory as shown on the Original Post

Notice Board

I used a small decal scissors for the cut-outs and something called Alles-kleber (which I assume is normal hobby glue) and very carefully glued the posters on the wooden frame :-)

Outhouse from Stronghold Terrain

I already have a lot of terrain for villages and such, but I totally fell for this outhouse from Stronghold Terrain.

I bought the one with the dude… discharging while picking his nose! So funny!
The roof is not attached (for sneak peaks) and the door can be closed if it needs to look unoccupied!

The toilet is also great for Mordheim! We even used it as a joke for the “treasure in the well” loot :-P

A Break from Vacation!

It has been waaay too long since my last post and the reason, you ask? Vacation and preparing for vacation! As small business owners, my husband and I rarely stop working and when we do, we spend time on our hobby (which is also our work. Cool, right?)

But everyone needs some time off and we have been lucky enough to have a vacation house by the beach at our disposal for a whole month! This has really given us the break we’ve needed for continuing our work on a whole new ruleset for our own RPG game which is set in the Warhammer Fantasy world (Pre-Storm of Chaos and Pre-End-time, obviously!)

It has been a while since we’ve used an official ruleset like WFRP, D&D, Pathfinder etc, because we always end up house-ruling a lot.

We have decided to test these rules (just the two of us) while we are on vacation, and since we have all the “props” and miniatures at our home, we had to bring a limited amount of miniatures in a good old Gw army-suitcase. So as you can see on our session pictures, we had to improvise… A lot! (The pile of green Nurgle-tokens is supposed to be a disgusting pool of slime, the green tablecloth is grass etc). The people next to/on top of the cages are victims which are supposed to be inside them, but I didn’t have the nerves to squeeze them in there!

Vacation House Session 1

Sorry for the less than professional pictures taken by my mobile phone :*-) but I thought it would be fun to put them up for people to see. I’m always curious myself when it comes to how people play RPG’s!
The tiny shiny dots on the table are range increments which makes sense when playing!

The heroes are looking for a dwarf (long story) but he had somehow escaped the Beastmen camp and was no where to be found. The heroes decided to save the other prisoners now that they were there, anyway :-P

Here is another picture after the heroes found the dwarf named Snortek. He was hanging head down from a tree while being interrogating by bandits.

Vacation House Session 2

I’m glad we brought all the trees cause they really spice up the whole thing. The fir trees are incredibly lifelike and well made. We are already selling a lot of 4-ground trees in our shop, so we will definately be selling these in our online store aswell. I will be adding a bit of paint to the visible parts of the trunks when I get home, but they really outshine my old Games Workshop trees.

Another thing that really helps our players to get into the RPG spirit are props! Instead of having papernotes lying around, we use books which look really great on the table! Not only do they look amazing, but it is also a great way to gather all the notes! Some of our props are cheap remakes from China, but others are actually real antiques.
Here is a picture of just some of the things we bring into our game.

Vacation House Props

We have several of the Warhammer dice cups so each player has his/her own :-)
And right before we went on vacation, we received the collector’s edition of Total War: Warhammer, which included the most insane Book of Grudges replica and loads of other high quality props (the drinking horn is epic)

Oh well, turns out my little vacation update turned out bigger than expected! We will be getting home and back to work in a few weeks and then I’ll have time to write a whole bunch of posts!
