Fenbeast! Proud and Terrifying Companion of The Dark Emissary!

About a month ago, I wrote a post about the Dark Emissary who is the villain of our Nordland campaign. In our campaign he is assisted by wolves and last week we defeated his monstrous and enormous Dire Wolf. Sure wasn’t easy and we ended up pretty beaten, but alive! Poor Viktor (our Bright Wizard) had received strange tokens every time he did something savage, which he happens to do a lot! And during the Dire Wolf fight, each token left him with Disease points, Stress and lots of Wounds. Let’s just say he went home pretty messed up! He will need some time to recover that’s for sure!

Since the original Dark Emissary from the Albion campaigns (old Games Workshop book) is assisted by a fenbeast, we thought it was fitting for him to have one. The GW one is quite small and not as frightful as we wanted him to be, so we bought the Mórannach, Beast of Cill Chonn Bog from Mierce Miniatures (they have a thing with weird names).

We can only hope that we won’t encounter this beast, but somehow I think our GM has already planned another sinister plan masterminded by the emissary!

WIP: 2016 Christmas Diorama

Christmas is slowly approaching, which means that it’s time for yet another Christmas Diorama. Last year my husband put together a small outdoor Christmas Diorama, which I painted.
We decided to do another one again this year, but this time it’ll be a bit more complex. You can follow the progress of the Christmas Diorama in the Projects Section or by clicking here. 

The scene/story is set in Santa Claus’ home, where a young Mrs. Clause has brought her hot friend over, where together they’ll  surprise Santa Claus when he returns home after a long day of work delivering presents.

So the very first thing was to start building a floor and some walls. We cut out some styrofoam to use as walls and used some cardboard (Was actually a component from a board game) for the bottom. Below you can see the very first picture of the project, after 1 layer of plaster on the styrofoam walls.

Miniatures & Furniture

We decided to use The Medieval Fireplace from Fenryll as the primary furniture in the diorama, setting up the scene around the large fireplace. As Mrs. Clause we’ll be using Mrs. Clause and Schnauzers from Dark Sword Miniatures and as Mrs. Clause’s naughty friend – Christmas Sophie 2009 from Reaper Miniatures without her wings!

The next picture shows the walls glued onto the bottom and two wooden sticks added to the top. Sophie is resting by the fireplace inside.

Damiel from Pathfinder RPG

About time I showed you another one of my heroes from our Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. This is Damiel the Elf Alchemist. A very entertaining class to play and finally you can use potions without having to banish them afterwards.

Damiel is a really cool mini sculpted by Bobby Jackson. His hair looks a lot better “in person”.

The dagger thingie is a bit fragile, though it hasn’t broken off or anything. Here is a few more pictures of the elf:

Painting the potions was a lot of fun. I usually don’t paint flasks and potions in bright reds and oranges, but I tried to make him resemble the artwork as best I could (as with my other Pathfinder miniatures)

Jessica, Keeper of the Glade – Gift for my Niece

As you might know, I paint a lot! Usually it’s 28mm miniatures on 25mm round bases, terrain, or monster miniatures on large bases etc, since I either use them for Rpg’s or sell them. I rarely get to paint something decorative with scenic display or anything like that. Mostly because we live in a small apartment and our number of miniatures is pretty high (though you can never get enough of them!)
My niece really likes my miniatures, and I thought I would paint something nice for her as a Birthday present. So I got to paint a nice display mini :-D

Jessica, keeper of the glade

I mounted the mini on a solid stone plinth with a good grip (for easy handling, she is 9 after all :) The mini is the “Jessica, Keeper of the Glade” from Dark Sword Miniatures and is scuplted by Jeff Grace. I initially wanted to paint the “Marike – Guardian of the Sea”, but the details are pretty immense, so I settled with this one and painted it very high fantasy with vibrant colours and even peacock feathers (only on the backside since I was afraid it would look too messy on the front) My niece thought the blood was a bit nasty, but it is part of the mini!

I decided not to add anything to the base apart from a bit of weathering, since I wanted the miniature to be the main focus. Only downside is that the mini is 28mm scale, and the rest of the family (the older part in particular) had a pretty hard time spotting details unless it was underneath a lamp :-P Will look great on a shelf anyway!

The miniature was painted using Scale75 and Reaper paints (especially the Ocean Colors Triad)

Ranged Orcs (Mordheim)

I recently painted 5 Orcs for my husband’s Mordheim Warband. He needed some Ranged Orcs for his Warband (+1 Ballistic Skill for a group, might as well use it). Having found 4 “Ruglud’s Armoured Orcs” on Ebay not long ago, we figured that these would be perfect for the job, even though they’ll be using bows in the actual warband. The 4 Ruglud’s Armoured Orcs can be seen below:

Nicki (my husband) wanted one more orc for the group and decided to convert one using Orc bits from Spellcrow and an old plastic orc (From the Warhammer Fantasy 6th Edition Core Set). The result ended up pretty funny with the orc having poked out his eye and is now attempting to clean his teeth with an arrow.

The Dire Wolf of the Dark Emissary

As I wrote in a previous post, the Dark Emissary has returned and this time with an army of wolves at his disposal. This here is the Dire Wolf from Reaper (metal version) and is the second largest wolf in his army (like it wasn’t big enough already!)

This is a very cool miniature and our encounters with the wolves have been very exciting (really fast monsters) I have another 3 smaller wolves painted with several more in progress and a very large wolf, which needs its own post!

The base is an interesting choice from Kromlech and is part of their Windfall line. You can find them here.

The Dark Emissary has Returned!

As the headline says! The Dark Emissary has Returned!

I decided it was time to put up this guy from our Nordland Campaign. He is by far the most challenging nemesis we have encountered in our WFRP campaigns over the years and he deserves a spotlight!

In our last session, we discovered that an evil and greedy nobleman (with ties to a cult we’re after) has somehow bribed Dark Elves to summon an evil entity to rid the Forest of Shadows of forest spirits. The plan worked to begin with, but the enitity turned to be none less than the Dark Emissary! And he has slowly taken over the forest and surrounding cities, gaining power from each victim.

As of now he controls an army of Wolves. Really big ones! I painted quite a lot of them for our sessions, not knowing the use of them. Well, I do now and it turns out one of the PC’s have been cursed by him and might turn into something… unpleasant. I will have to see next session!

He’s a really cool and unique miniature with many small details and weird symbols. I looked at some old artwork from The Dark Shadows Campaign (simular to Storm of Chaos and Storm of Magic) and based the miniature on that. Here are a few examples:

No-one knows for sure who the Dark Emissaries are, though they are widely regarded as dangerous, evil sorcerers and the harbingers of imminent doom. Wherever he walks, the Dark Emissary sows seeds of deceit and despair, leaving those who listen to his advice utterly broken. – Games Workshop

I have started on a Fen Beast for him, but the original GW model is not so convincing and rather small. So I ended up buying this from Mierce Miniatures. Brittle details like their other miniatures, but I might cut the sticks and branches shorter so they won’t snap off whenever I use it :)

 

Lem From Pathfinder RPG

Still have a few more Pathfinder characters up my sleeve! This one is Lem, Iconic Halfling Bard!

The cool thing about these minis is that, not only do I use them for the Adventure Card Game, but they fit right into my RPG’s aswell. He’s a really cool halfling miniature and Derek Schubert did a great job sculpting this beaut’ :)

I picked this guy for our Skull & Shackles Campaign and it was great fun having both Divine and Arcane skill!

I tried to paint him as close as I could to the official artwork of Lem. He is really small. Around the same size as Lini. So painting details is harder than it looks!

Zombicide: Black Plague – Kickstarter Necromancers and Medieval Batman!

Been a while since my last Zombicide post and I still have loads of painted heroes and zombies waiting in line. It’s a good thing though, since I haven’t even started on all the new boxes I bought recently (including crowz and special guest boxes I didn’t buy from the Kickstarter!)

Here we have the 3 exclusive Necromancers which were only available during the Kickstarter. Most of the exclusive miniatures have some sort of connection to movies, books, comics and TV.

Here we have (from left to right) Evil Troy (Bruce Campbell’s Evil Ash counterpart from Army of Darkness), Grin (Medieval Joker) and Queen Medea (Charlize Theron as Queen Ravenna from Snow White and the Huntsman)

All of them have unique Necromancer Cards. Medea cannot be killed unless she is the only zombie in her zone, Evil Troy can be killed as normal but he will resurrect each turn unless he takes 3 damage in one blow and whenever a zombie in Grin’s zone activates, he activates aswell, making him a quick SoB who needs to be taken down immediately! We usually include all the Necromancers including the extra core one that was included in the kickstarter aswell + Ostokar from the Special Guest Box by Naïade. Really stressful ending up with 6 necromancers, but that’s part of the fun!

I used very exaggerated highlights on Queen Medea to make her dress seem “silvery” like her artwork. I painted Grin a lot less bloody (his face is bathed in blood in the artwork as the Joker’s make-up)

Here is a photo of Scowl (Batman) and Grin (Joker) side by side. I really like the way they made the Kickstarter Exclusives unique. Still a shame that they aren’t available to retailers, as the miniatures really deserve a re-run.

Myriam the Mystic

As I am always scouting Reaper Miniatures for new and interesting minis for myself or King Games, I couldn’t help but notice the resemblance between Sister Lana, Healer and Myriam Jahzia from Diablo 3 – Reaper of Souls expansion. I am assuming that Bobby Jackson saw her as some kind of inspiration as she is quite similar, down to the small details of her staff, headpiece and dress.

I tried to paint her as Myriam as we needed an enchanter and jeweler for our campaign in Nordland!

I chose to paint her hair blonde instead of grey, as if it was a youthful version of her. Whether it is her wit, sense of humour or simply the size of her bosom – she has taken our Bright Wizard Viktor by storm.

I added a few more gems to the miniature to make her look like a jeweler :)
