Even More Townsfolk!

A few days ago I made a post about some townsfolk for our RPG – a blacksmith and a halfling nobleman. This time I painted a couple of real oldschool Bretonnian Archers and a small child from Freebooter.

The archers were really fun to paint. We found a bunch of these stored in my husband’s parents’ attic and I decided to paint 2 of them as archers for our town scenery. I already have one  practice target from Zealot Miniatures and I have several extra targets from Mantic Kickstarter due in May.
I painted them in 2 themes. One standard Archer with the Colours of Talabecland and some freehand “embroidery” and a little moustache :) the other is in Hochland Attire with a little Bretonnian Lily icon (Fleur de Lis).

The kid is from a Freebooter Miniatures: Lobo the Old Warhorse set. I added a large feather to his (or her) hat, though it is a little hard to see on the picture. The base is the original metal base customized to fit a 20mm base. I painted the child androgynous, so we can use it as either a girl or a boy squire, helping the pc’s carry their luggage and other necessities.

More RPG Townsfolk!

I’ve had some time to take pictures of some of my many npc’s and monsters used in our RPG lately. Last Week it was the Warrior priests and Mordheim Zombies.

Now it is time for some townsfolk!

First off is Laril Silverhand, Female Elven Blacksmith sculpted by Bobby Jackson. Finally a miniature that’s not a macho dwarf or human! A female elf without boob armor and toned muscles from the hard labour is a rare sight indeed, and she was fun to paint! I am still learning how to paint white hair, but she looks great in real life! My husband was able to mount her on a cobblestone base, which is always a challenge since the miniature comes with a large chunk of metal as a base.

 

Halfling Dungeons and Dragons

Last not but not least, we have the tiny halfling/gnome from a Dungeons & Dragons Collector’s box called Qesnef, Ogre Mage. The miniature is long out of print and not even on the front of the box, but he is so cool and has got so much character, that I just had to paint him! I haven’t even assembled the Ogre :)
He is actually the Ogre Mage in halfling disguise/form. He was a bunch of fun to paint, and I hope we will see his character unfold in our RPG!

The resin varies a lot between the collector’s boxes. I have quite a few boxes in storage and the quality is close to Forge World on most of them. This one was very soft and was like a weird combination of Forge World resin and Reaper Bones. He can bend around the base, but is still incredibly detailed.

Warrior Priests of Sigmar!

I simultaneously painted these two Warrior Priests using the exact same colours and techniques, which was really fun. They both work at the local Temple of Sigmar :)

The female Warrior Priest is the resin master of Mother Morrigan from Hasslefree Miniatures. The sculpt is an older model, as they later made a second version of the mini with scars and a pouch since Kev White weren’t 100% satisfied with the original version. I still think it’s cool, though. Mine didn’t come with several weapon choices, but I would have picked the 2-hander nonetheless :)

The male Warrior Priest is an old metal Games Workshop miniature. I gave him some stubbles and again, the same colours as the female model. I freehanded the texture on the cloth as a wool, but it’s really hard to see on the photos.

The colours I used were: Metal armor is Black Metal drybrushed and then highlighted over Black surface primer (both from Scale75) and finally highlighted with Heavy Metal. The leather parts are Muddy Soil with Basic Dirt highlights, and finally, the cloth is Burgundy Wine with Pale Violet subtle highlights.

Mordheim Zombies!

Finally finished painting all the Mordheim Zombies!

I was lucky enough to find an original set a few years ago, but I only painted a couple of them, before I put the rest in the box of shame (unpainted, based and primed minis) We even made custom bases for them, but for some reason I didn’t finish the miniatures.
Most of the zombies have living counterparts except a few of them (a dwarf and a Reiklander i presume) I finished the last 3 in an evening, so not exactly a super detail job! But they ended up quite good, and I used some of the blood techniques from the Zombicide minis.

My husband chose the Autumn theme for the bases and painted + based them with tufts and leaves, while I painted the miniatures.

And the last batch! From left to right: Witch Hunter Hound, Elf Ranger (Hired swords) and Dwarf Treasure Hunter. The Dwarf is particular nasty due to his eyeball dangling from his empty eye socket!

I chose to paint them as “recently deceased” instead of a classic greenish colour, as I believe it makes them a whole lot creepier!

Can’t get enough of them Bandits!

For our newest campaign (WFRP) we wanted some bandits (some shabby/suspicious types) and I spotted the Dreadmere Mercenaries that fits right into our campaign! I did however, find a miniature suitcase (that’s a suitcase with miniatures inside it, not a very small suitcase!) filled with bandits we haven’t used in a while and now the town is swarming with thugs! Since our band of heroes are all shady and no strangers to crime, they suited the purpose!

Dreadmere

I painted one of them as a woman even though I was unsure if this was the case! But it is nice to have a bandit type female to have a more realistic look than a lot of other miniatures which are usually bombshells wearing a corset with cleavage, visible bellybuttons or highly inconvinent bare skin mixed with pieces of armor. So I tend to go for it whenever I see a more unconventional female miniature!
I also gave the individual minis some character by adding scars and patterns. Had a real good time with these :D

Halflings from Dark Sword Miniatures

Dark Sword Miniatures creates so many awesome miniatures, but few halflings and dwarves. Other than their DiTerlizzi line, there are only 2 halflings. Both of them sculpted by Derek Schubert, one of my favourite sculptors! Derek painted the product pieces himself, and I was heavily inspired by the colour palette.

First off, the Female Halfling Ranger with Bow:

This one was painted mainly with Reaper paints. The Cloak was my favourite paint Burgundy Wine highlighted with Pale Violet Red. The greens were Olive Drab highlighted with Ghoul Skin and Pale Olive. Great miniature to work with!

Next one is the Halfling Rogue with Daggers:

I used the same purple colours as the ranger on his vest. The coat was Muddy Brown, highlighted with Earth Brown and Leather Brown, while the pants were one of my favourite paints, Ancient Oak from Reaper’s Bones Paints line highlighted with various greens :) Daggers were painted with Heavy Metal and Emerald Alchemy both from Scale75. Hair on both minis were painted with Muddy Soil and Highlighted with Shield Brown.

I really love these minis, and I hope they will be of use in our RPG :)

Another commissioned Elven Ranger!

A while ago I painted an Arcane Ranger for an Italian customer, which I really enjoyed painting! And I couldn’t turn down another chance of painting this guy, when an Australian customer wanted one for an RPG!

The miniature is the amazing Male Elven Ranger with Bow from Dark Sword Miniatures (yeah, their miniature names aren’t that inventive!) Sculpted by the talented Jeff Grace.

This time I pushed the envelope and he turned up great! I painted him in a black/silver colour scheme using mainly Reaper and Scale75 paints. I dabbled with both NMM and some Alchemical paints from Scale75 which looks a little like metallic paints, but with a super fine pigment that dries in a satin finish.

Male Elven Ranger

Again, it is a little hard to see on pictures, but he looks amazing in “person” and I’m pretty proud of how he turned out :-)

He arrived safe and sound, so that’s a relief. People really underestimate the nerves artists have when shipping miniatures this fragile around the world! I did manage to seal the bottom (this one was painted without a plastic base) dozens of times, just to be sure! And his cloak, dagger and bow were also sealed many times, and I am happy that the many layers didn’t decrease the overall look :)

Happy New Year! With Pre-painted section News!

Happy new year! 2017 was the busiest year of all time for us! New house, new dog, new cat and a whole lot of work! So hopefully 2018 will prove much more fruitful, atleast regarding getting more posts up!

I’m planning on re-opening my Pre-painted section in March on www.KingGames.eu, and I already have quite a few items ready :) I really wanted to have it up and running in 2017, but then we found our dream house, and well, that took most of our time! So this time it is for real! :-D

And the first miniature of the year is! *drumroll* Dark Nick from Freebooter!

He is a member of a gang our rogue Ozzy was once a part of, so I painted him in dark colours using the Dark Elf triad from Reaper and Eclipse Gray from Scale75. All dark grays with hints of purple. Did some subtle freehand on him aswell. Think he turned out quite good. He bears a striking resemblance with Nick Cave, which can’t be a coincidence! Gave him some gray strikes in his hair to show he has some years of kicking arse behind him ;-D

My first painted Bones miniatures!

Even though I have backed the last 2 Bones Kickstarters, I haven’t actually painted the miniatures, only some terrain. I have given most of the miniatures as extra gifts to customers in our shop :)

The Kickstarter for Bones 3 was a bit of a mixed sensation. I didn’t receive my order before their next Bones 4 kickstarter was done. So it was really delayed and I wondered how they started another Kickstarter when a lot of their backers (European mostly) had not even received their previous Kickstarter orders. A shame really, because the quality is 200% better than their previous kickstarters. Much better casts with less mould-lines to take care of, and a lot more unique figures. But by the time I opened my box, it was too late to back the next :-/

So while I wait the 2+ years for the next batch to come out in the Reaper store, I’ll paint some of the stuff I have now :)

First off: The Halfling Chef!

He is a really tiny fellow, so there were even space for a few grocery items on the base. His nose turned out a little weird on the pictures, but you really don’t notice it when holding him. Especially not on the table! The colours are based on this picture from the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3rd Edition Halfling Chef Career card:
